I choose to create non-objective paintings because I find them to be authentic and gratifying. To my eye, a painting needs to have rhythm, balance, harmony, life, and a spark of magic. The exploration of non-objective abstraction requires a great deal of fearless trust.

A splash of color, a pattern, a drawn line, all meld into a compelling visual language. Creating something out of nothing and nurturing its transformation into a piece that is alive with energy, color and intrigue is my main objective.

My work comes into existence through various combined elements of paint, torn or cut up bits of collage, painted papers, marks of the hand, drawn or scribed, and perhaps a bit of magic. I seek a balance of energy, an order among chaos, a continual give and take that teeters between equilibrium and the breaking point.

I grew up in upstate New York. My father was a cartoonist at heart and an architect by profession. His discipline and ceaseless work ethic strongly influenced my own approach to my work. I currently maintain my studio practice on Martha's Vineyard.
