I do not generally begin a painting with a preconceived idea but more of a desire to work in certain colors.

Dana's work is strongly influenced by extensive travel where she acquired an awareness and appreciation of the dramatic spectrum of color and contour. She has developed a repertoire of shapes and forms that reappear frequently in her pieces. In abstract paintings she is not weighed down with the burden of representation but is free to explore color, shape and their spatial relationships. Her goal is to attain strong composition and a rich dramatic palette with spontaneous forms while maintaining a sense of sophistication. She embraces the unplanned, unstructured results that come after years of experience working with varied mediums. When painting still lifes or landscapes her intrinsic grasp of substance and color remains evident.
